(1) 1. Of what do they (the pagans and atheists) ask one another?
(2) 2. Of the Great News, (the Day of Resurrection and the Great Qur'an)?
(3) 3. About which they differ?
(4) 4. But no! They will soon come to know,
(5) 5. Then no! They will soon come to know.
(6) 6. Have We not made the earth as a flat resting place (like a child’s cradle) for you?
(7) 7. And the mountains as pegs (therein)?
(8) 8. And created you in pairs.
(9) 9. And made your sleep as a means for rest.
(10) 10. And made the night as a covering (in its darkness).
(11) 11. And made the day for seeking livelihood.
(12) 12. And We constructed above you seven strong (heavens one above another),
(13) 13. And made therein a burning lamp (the sun),
(14) 14. And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly,
(15) 15. That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation,
(16) 16. And gardens dense and luxuriant.
(17) 17. Surely the Day of Judgment is an appointed time;
(18) 18. The Day on which the trumpet will be blown, and then you shall come forth in multitudes,
(19) 19. And the sky will be opened so that it will become gateways.
(20) 20. And the mountains will be moved off, and they will be as if they were a mirage.
(21) 21. Surely Hell lies in wait,
(22) 22. A Home for the transgressors.
(23) 23. They will abide therein for ages.
(24) 24. Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink -
(25) 25. Except scalding water and (foul) pus,
(26) 26. A recompense suitable (to their evil deeds).
(27) 27. Surely they were not expecting a Reckoning,
(28) 28. And they denied our Verses (of the Qur'an) a complete denial.
(29) 29. And We have enumerated everything (of what they did) in writing;
(30) 30. So taste (your painful Punishment which you used to deny)! For We shall not add to you anything except Torment.
(31) 31. Surely for those who keep to the Commandments of Allah and guard against evil is a (great) Achievement (of success and safety from Hellfire),
(32) 32. Gardens and vineyards (in Paradise),
(33) 33. And beautiful luscious maidens, with the freshness of youth, equals in age,
(34) 34. And a cup full (of pure wine);
(35) 35. They will not hear therein (in the Paradise) any vain words nor lying:
(36) 36. A Reward from (Allah) your Lord, a Gift, (amply) sufficient;
(37) 37. The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, the Most Compassionate (Allah). None shall have power to speak to Him (on the Day of Judgment except after His Permission).
(38) 38. The Day on which the (holy) spirit (Gabriel) and the angels will stand in ranks; they will not speak (before Him) except he whom (Allah) the Most Compassionate permits,and who speaks only what is right.
(39) 39. That is the inevitable Day; so whoever wills let him take the (right) Way (of Islam) that leads towards his (real) Lord (Allah).
(40) 40. Surely We have warned you of a near Torment; the Day when man will see what (good or evil deeds) his two hands have sent forth, and the disbeliever will say: 'Woe to me! Would that I were mere dust!'
