(1) 1. Read in the Name of (Allah) your Lord Who created,
(2) 2. Created man from a clot.
(3) 3. Read and (Allah) your Lord is the Most Honorable,
(4) 4. Who taught (people to write) with the pen,
(5) 5. Taught man what he knew not.
(6) 6. No! But man (the disbeliever) most surely transgresses,
(7) 7. When he sees himself sufficed (in terms of wealth, honor, and rank).
(8) 8. Surely to (Allah) your Lord is the (final) Return (of all).
(9) 9. Have you seen him (the disbeliever) who forbids,
(10) 10. A worshipper (of God) when he prays?
(11) 11. Have you considered if he is on the right Guidance (from God)?
(12) 12. Or enjoins piety?
(13) 13. Have you considered if he (the disbeliever) denies the Truth and turns (his) back (to it)?
(14) 14. Does he not know that Allah sees (what he does)?
(15) 15. No! If he does not desist, We will certainly smite his forehead,
(16) 16. A lying, sinful forehead.
(17) 17. Then let him summon his council,
(18) 18. We too would summon the guards of Hell (i.e., the grim stern angels of Hell to destroy him).
(19) 19. No! Do not obey him. But fall prostrate and draw near (to Allah).
